what’s poppin’? november

The monthly series where we pick out a handful of fun gigs and such happening around the sound. Mostly in Malmö and Lund, but also in Copenhagen and maybe even further? That is if we think it’s something worth giving a mention. Did we miss anything? TELL US!

It’s cold, it’s getting colder. It’s dark, it’s getting darker. Can live music save us from the melancholy of the fast approaching winter? Find out in this edition of what’s poppin’?.

1/11

Storhövding / Old Carters Memory Lane / Nailbed (Hemgården Lund) koncept-art-funk-prog-reggae-artrock, indiepop, och alternativmetal. eklektiskt! skånskt! och gratis!

Need For Speed / Toi Let (Grand) not that fun electronic indie and kinda fun synth prog

2/11

Kim Gordon / Zamilska (Plan B) sonic youth kim doing vague electronic solo stuff, plus a synth techno opener or something

Bromander / Eric Palmqwist (Grand) svensk grabb-indiepop och lagom intressant alternativrock

Moin / Rivet (Inkonst) moody and cool af postpunk, attitude and shit. and industrial techno, it’s at inkonst after all.

7/11

Quiet Commotion / Sam Josef (Medley) swedens sickest lofi-indierocker brings the band to medley with support folk-blues singersongwriter

8/11

Dummy (Plan B) spaced out dance-prog-altrock

12/11

Bad Nerves / Ultra Q (Loppen Copenhagen) punkrock

14/11

Yellowbrenda / Baench / Del III / Huanastone / etc. (Babel) jazzy indiefolkpop, sick danish shoegaze-indierock, dark alternativerock, fuzzy stoner-rock, @ scania sounds showcase festival – NOTE could also be on the 15th they’re doing both days and haven’t dropped the day lineups yet – also a bunch of other artists

15/11

Claire Rousay / Pauline Hogstrand (Inkonst) lofi autotuned indierock, with beautiful soundscapes holy moly. and also a bunch of high-pitched sounds.

16/11

Linn Koch-Emmery (Plan B) swedish-indie in english, sounds really cool – kinda sick guitars, pleasant melodies, interesting drums and stuff.

Tomma intet / Great Park Avenue (Grand) lite drömmig men mörk alternativrock och/and postpunk-ish indierock. moody and melancholic, ‘tis the season.

17/11

Comeback Kid / Spaced / Prowl (Plan B) sort of stadium-hardcore (if that’s a thing?) joined by two more hardcore outifts, one more typical, the other more thrash. idk but i did go to outbreak so i’m somewhat of an expert on these things.

DIIV / Tim Kinsella & Jenny Pulse (Vega Copenhagen) big postpunky shoegazy-ish artrockband, and new semi-electronic artpop Kinsella project with Jenny Pulse

18/11

The Chats / The Prize (Plan B) australian bangin’ punkrock and rockin’ rock. i’m on smoko, leave me alone.

19/11

Wand (Plan B) LA “psychedelic”-ish garagerock, guitars etc.

Mercury Rev / Nicolai Dunger (Mejeriet Lund) nostalgic anthem-indierock and acoustic bluesfolk singersongwriter

20/11

Daniel Romano’s Outfit / Carson McHone (Plan B) dude and his band has dropped plenty of bangers with a diverse source of influences but mostly it sounds like pretty good powerpop with country influences. joined by country-alternativerock.

21/11

Chubby & The Gang / Jade Hairpin (Plan B) rock n roll hardcore-punk and funky-theatrical alternativerock, could be sick

Mojo Pin / Alkaline / Farsot / Söndagsklubben / Major Business / Mother Mersy (Babel) the coolest grunge-bunch around, metalheads, rock n’ rollers, an rnb-pop outfit, garagerockers on psychedelics, and more rockers in a cagematch to the death at this popcorn music competition (i don’t believe in competing in music, but giving newer bands a larger presence is cool i guess)

28/11

King Hannah / Jess Ribeiro (Mejeriet Lund) cool indierock with crunchy guitars and an attitude, sounds kinda sick. and “sway back and forth” pretty grandiose-pianopop

29/11

Dödskällan (PLAN B) mörkt malmö alternativrockband, dunder live och på inspelning. releasefest för ny platta, många bangers från den är redan släppta, lyssna på dem nu och plattan när den väl släpps. kyrkogårds-core på bästa sättet.

30/11

Ghostface Killah / Inspectah Deck (Plan B) wu tang clan lol

Marcus Berggren (Mejeriet Lund) komiker gör indie
