new music! Weatherday – “Angel” w/ “Heartbeats”

FFO: Brave Little Abacus, Hey, Ily, laikaonline

This Tuesday, Weatherday released two tracks from their upcoming album Hornet Disaster. It is without a doubt one of the most anticipated albums of the year for both emos and most music critics, following the incredible critical reception of the now emo-classic that is 2019’s Come In. It is also highly anticipated by me following the soundcloud release of this absolute banger. From what we can tell by these tunes, Weatherday is evolving sonically into something more akin to that of other 5th-emo bands whilst staying true to their raw, distorted, and pixelated sound that they’re loved for. The texts are still bursting with emotion with honest songwriting that cuts right through to the heart. Production-wise both of these tracks fuck – inspired choices that fit thematically like a foot in a sock.

The first of the pair rushes through the snow with bitcrushed drums and twinkling guitars only to break off the dynamics with a sample and then come back in even harder than before – then to slow down and underline the song’s tagline. The second track takes on a much slower tempo; it’s much more thoughtful in its nature and might pack a bigger punch because of it. Both songs are incredibly nostalgic and deal with romanticizing moments, an emotional weight that isn’t hard to connect with. What these themes and sonic shifts entail for the full LP remains for us to see when it releases.

It is so sick that Sweden can produce some of the best music in a genre that is tailor made for folks like myself. I’m not kidding when I say that this is the only music that I’ve listened to since it dropped – and that will probably continue to be the case until the album drops (over exaggeration but you get the point). No local shows have yet to be announced though, they are however touring the entire United States in May if you’re in that area.
