FFO: Brave Little Abacus, Hey, Ily, laikaonline
Weatherday just released the third track from their upcoming LP Hornet Disaster, a bonkers banger titled “Tiara” (following this trend of hits). Here we find ourselves dropped into a familiar soundscape of fast and noisy instrumentals, echoing the emotion of the lead vocals – in this entry perhaps somewhat distressed, nostalgic and/or unsure. Thematically this emo rager sounds descriptive of the narrator’s own POV in a relationship, and their own negative or somewhat positive traits – the chorus repeats perhaps somewhat clingy “are you thinking of me? I am thinking of you”. What kind of relationship this is descriptive of remains perhaps to be seen within the context of the album, but in press releases it’s been described as their existence within a social scene and their isolation therein. Center of the tune stands the tiara, an object central to the emotion of the song (“du gav mig en tiara med en hand som jag tog emot med båda två”). Frantic guitars, distorted drums and catchy melodies add up to sick shit that’s not too hard to identify with and even easier to mosh around to in your bedroom.
